About me

headshot.JPG
I am a doctoral candidate in the Communication Studies department at Concordia University in Montreal, Canada. In my former life I developed online content, conducted research for documentary television series, and administered academic research projects. Since 2002 I have been involved in social research on communication technologies. I have always been interested in how social organization and cultural sense-making are part of the development and use of communications technologies. I am currently finishing a thesis describing how community Wi-Fi projects are part of local social and cultural development.

Much of my research has been inspired by working with Ile Sans Fil; I am also a member of CRACIN (who do research on community networks), of CWIRP (who study the construction of public wireless infrastructure), and of the LabCMO (who study the connections between communities and ICT). I published recently in Wi: Journal of the Mobile Digital Commons Network, and in Government Information Quarterly.
